Communications Manager Reports to: Director of Development

Position overview: Part-time position (20-25 hours/week)
responsible for strengthening and advancing CISA’s identity (brand) through a comprehensive media relations and marketing program; develops and coordinates internal and external communications, including communications to CISA Local Hero members, donors, external stakeholders and partners, colleagues, and the media.

Primary responsibilities:

Communications:

1. Writes and edits bi-monthly newsletter, annual report, program materials, fundraising and Local Hero membership collaterals, paid advertising, and other communication means use to educate and inspire donors and other stakeholders.

2. Establishes direction of CISA website, updates site content and troubleshoots in order to maximize site effectiveness in supporting development and program objectives.

3. Writes and distributes monthly electronic newsletter; develops new electronic communications vehicles (i.e weblogs, podcasts, audio-streams).

Media Relations:
1. Develops and coordinates outreach to local and regional media and public officials in support of CISA’s mission and program goals.
2. Responds to media inquiries and schedules press events as needed.
3. Writes, edits and distributes press releases, feature articles, interviews, speeches, talking points, presentations and other public relations pieces.
4. Writes copy for Local Hero program and member advertisements and oversees production and placement of ads.
5. Works with staff and key volunteers to craft messages on policies and issues central to CISA’s mission and programs and actively seeks opportunities to pitch story ideas to print and broadcast media.
6. Represents CISA to outside groups such as chambers of commerce, visitor bureaus, and professional service organizations.

Design & Print Production:
1. Coordinates all print production efforts and serves as liaison to printers, mail houses, vendors, design consultants and contractual services.
2. Oversees production of training manuals and materials developed for technical services and other programs.
3. Ensures consistent messaging and maintains editorial and graphic standard across CISA publications.
4. Monitors communications budget and ensures timely and cost-effective production and distribution of newsletters, annual reports and other publications.

Outstanding verbal and written communications and presentation/public speaking skills.
Ability to grasp complex organizational and mission related issues.
Ability to manage multiple projects, establish priorities and meet deadlines.
Highly motivated self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues and key volunteers.

Minimum of 3 years communications experience with direct responsibility for marketing and/or public relations programs; undergraduate degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with desk-top and web design.

Availability to work weekends as necessary.

Prior work in nonprofit and membership sectors a plus.

Salary commensurate with experience.
