Are
you interested in fresh, local, affordable, organically grown
produce delivered weekly right to your workplace? Holyoke Community
College has collaborated with Sangha Farm of Ashfield and Community
Involved in Sustaining Agriculture to offer employees and students
the opportunity to participate in an exciting new program called
Farm2City. Employees/students who wish to participate will purchase
a ‘share’ of Sangha Farm’s harvest in advance
of the growing season. In return, Sangha Farm will make a weekly
delivery to Holyoke Community College from the beginning of
June through October. (Start date and on-campus location TBA.)
Shares
will be distributed on campus Wednesdays from 2-5:30 pm
From the beginning of June through October
What’s
in a share?
Typically,
each week’s share consists of a wide variety of seasonally
available vegetables and culinary herbs. Every week throughout
the season you will be presented with an array of produce to
choose from. Early spring distributions will be smaller and
the size of the share will increase as the season progresses.
A weekly share consists of enough vegetables for a family of
3 or more. You will receive a tote bag with our farm logo on
it to fill with your share. For an extra cost we also offer
organic eggs that you can preorder week to week. Along with
your produce you will receive a monthly newsletter with happenings
from the farm, recipes featuring herbs and produce we grow,
hints on food preservation such as canning, freezing and drying,
and discounts on bulk amounts of produce. We also offer u-pick
green beans, herbs, cherry tomatoes, snap peas, & snow peas
when you visit the farm. You are welcome to visit the farm for
u-pick, to walk around and enjoy the fields, picnic in our children’s
garden or on the hill overlooking the fields, experience a ‘kiss’
from our oxen or play with our baby sheep and Nubian goats.
How
much does a share cost?
The
cost of a share for Holyoke Community College employees and
students for the 2006 season is $450 (We offer payment plans
and a few scholarships may be available). The season runs for
approximately 20 weeks; this breaks down to $22.50 per week.
Included in this price is a weekly delivery of organically grown
produce, access to u-pick herbs, green beans, cherry tomatoes,
snow and snap peas when you visit the farm, and a canvas tote
bag.
